Leon sits on the Federal 45D corridor, which is the spine of the Bajio. From Guanajuato Capital it is a straightforward run through Silao; from Queretaro and Mexico City you follow 57D then 45D; from Guadalajara you come in on 80D/45D.

- Tolls are cash-and-card and worth it — the free roads are much slower.
- Parking in the Centro is street-metered and tight; use a hotel with parking or a public lot and leave the car there.
- Boulevards (Lopez Mateos, Adolfo Lopez Mateos, Hilario Medina) move fast and change lanes often; a navigation app is not optional.
- Fuel stops are plentiful along 45D.
