Why stop in Irapuato
Irapuato is a working city of farms, food processing and industry, and it does not pretend otherwise. What it gives a traveller is convenience: it sits on the main Bajío highway between León and Celaya, so it is a cheap, uncomplicated overnight when Guanajuato Capital and San Miguel de Allende are full or expensive.
The Centro rewards an hour on foot. The Jardín Principal is the city's living room, ringed by arcades and street vendors, and the Templo del Hospitalito — the small 18th-century church on its edge — is the most photographed building in town. Around it you will find *fresas con crema* sold by the cup almost year-round, along with strawberry preserves, jams and *ates*.
