Guanajuato's main traditional market and one of its most recognizable landmarks. Built as a railway station and inaugurated in 1910 by Porfirio Díaz for the Independence centennial, the two-floor iron-and-glass hall has three entrances and packs produce stands, candy and preserves, artisan crafts, souvenirs and food counters under one roof. State-recognised artisan crafts house on Plaza de la Paz, a few steps from the Basílica. Open-air market and prepared-food area right next to Mercado Hidalgo, connected through its side entrances. Best known for cheap, hearty local plates from its fondas and food stalls, plus fruit, flowers and everyday goods. Often treated as part of the Mercado Hidalgo complex, but it has its own distinct stalls and atmosphere.

The largest shopping centre serving Guanajuato Capital, opened 7 June 2019 in Yerbabuena just south of the city. Alaïa (Plaza Alaïa) has around 88 commercial spaces spanning national and international fashion brands, anchor stores, restaurants, a food court and entertainment, and is owned by Fibra Uno (FUNO). It draws an estimated 14,000 visitors a day.
