What to expect

The FIG is one of the largest hot-air balloon festivals in Latin America. The main spectacle is the dawn launch: balloons inflate on the field before sunrise and drift up over the Parque Metropolitano reservoir, reflected in the water. Launches depend on wind and weather, so a calm morning can be magical and a windy one can be delayed or cancelled — plan to attend more than one morning if you can.

Daytime brings food stands, family activities and balloon displays. After sunset comes the night glow: tethered balloons fire their burners in sync, lighting up like giant lanterns, usually followed by live music on the main stage.
