What the Presa corridor is like to sleep in
Paseo de la Presa was built as a residential promenade, and it still feels like one. Wide sidewalks, garden walls, iron balconies and old mansions replace the tight stone alleys of the center. At night it is genuinely quiet — there is no callejoneada passing your window at midnight, and very little bar noise. The trade-off is that dinner options thin out after 9 or 10pm and you will want a taxi rather than a walk if you are coming back late from Centro.
The avenue also climbs. If mobility or luggage is a factor, ask your hotel which end of Paseo de la Presa it sits on and whether a taxi can pull up to the door. Some historic properties have interior stairs and no lift.

Should you stay in the Presa or in Centro?
Stay along Paseo de la Presa if you are traveling as a couple, want to sleep in silence, care about architecture, are visiting for a slower weekend, or are driving and need somewhere a car can actually reach. Stay in Centro Histórico if it is your first visit, you want to walk to the theaters and plazas, you are here for Cervantino, or you plan late nights.
One practical note for festival season: during Cervantino in October and around the Fiestas de San Juan in June, the Presa area sees street closures, extra traffic and higher demand. Book early and ask about access on event days.
